The first unit of Pakistan's 130-MW Duber Khwar hydropower plant is
now sending power to the country's national grid, project officials told
Asian media sources earlier this week.The first unit -- one of two 65 MW Pelton-type turbines produced by Andritz Hydro Austria -- is currently undergoing tests with the second to be commissioned soon, according to the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).
The project was built in a period of just eight months, WAPDA said, as part of the "Empower Pakistan" initiative.
Duber Khwar is located along a river of the same name, which is a tributary of the Indus River in the Khyber Pahktoon-khawa province.
